Wedding
I met Nadia back when we were both in college. We graduated in 2018 and promised ourselves we’d keep in touch after we finished school. But things happen and we both got super busy. I began to immerse myself into my photography and full time job and lost contact with her.
Mid 2021 came around, and I got a message from her on facebook. She told me she met a nice fellow shortly after graduating and that the two of them were managers of an apartment building in Brantford! “Are you looking for a new customer… I’m trying to find a good wedding photographer… you interested?” she asked. We got to chat a little bit more, and eventually scheduled a zoom call to talk about their wedding plans and what their visions were.
I could see the love Felix displayed towards Nadia. Every time she talked, he would look at her with so much admiration and passion. I quickly became obsessed with their vision and told them I’d love to be a part of their day. We left the call in high spirits, and to chat again to set everything up. But again, life happened and their plans fell through and everything was on hold.
Then in April 2023 she messaged me again. She mentioned how she had been trying to plan out their wedding the past 3 years. During that time they had moved to BC and were now back in Ontario for good. “We finally booked something for September! Are you interested in photographing a wedding in Jamaica?” Of course I immediately said yes and asked her to give me all of her details.
Both Nadia and Felix are bid adventurers. They love to hike and chase waterfalls. So for their engagement session I wanted them to feel “at home”. I suggested we’d meet at Tiffany Falls in Hamilton and they LOVED the idea. We got lucky and chose a day of the week to meet at the falls, so it was less busy. They felt so comfortable and made jokes around me, making me feel like we had been long time friends and we were just catching up. They were truly happy with their photos after they received them. Their reaction was “We can’t wait for you to be part of our day in the island”.
Fast forward 5 months, their wedding week was here. Prior to their wedding, we celebrated their soon-to-be union at a catamaran, where we sailed off to Dunn’s River. We climbed the falls and photographed their adventure with their families. Later that afternoon, we went over their wedding day and what their timeline would look like so we wouldn’t miss anything important. We finished off the night with drinks and a romantic dinner with their guests as we talked about love and untold stories about our lives.
They had the most beautiful intimate afternoon ceremony in the beach on Wednesday, September 20th. And continued to celebrate their love with a small dinner with their parent’s, siblings and just a few aunts and uncles. Nadia and Felix had their first dance under the stars and ended the night jumping in the pool as their send off.
“I wanted my wedding to feel like home. My dad was born and raised here. And growing up in an island like this one made our wedding day extra special” -Nadia.
Nadia and Felix truly made me feel like I was also a member of their family rather than the person that photographed their wedding. And for that, I am truly grateful.
